My Cavewoman Journey – Part 2 Shopping

My Cavewoman Journey – Part 2 Shopping

by Becca Brannan, RN - May 07, 2015

A few months ago I started looking around for places to buy natural, organic, “Paleo” approved foods and beauty products. It isn’t always easy to find products locally or all in one place. I have been known to spend a whole day traipsing around town looking for a particular kind of nut butter, almond meal or free-range eggs.

And I won’t lie to you… I like to shop, but I don’t like to go shopping! If this makes no sense to you, let me clarify. I love to buy really great foods to try out all the recipes in my Paleo cookbooks, but I hate spending a ton of time at the store. I would rather be out working in the garden or hanging at the park with my little boy. So, I have developed quite a fondness for online shopping (Amazon and my UPS man will concur).

I was beyond delighted when I discovered Thrive Market. I first heard about the site from some of the Paleo-related podcasts that I listen to on my daily walk. It is an online wholesale store for health nut junkies! It works a lot like Sam’s or Costco. You pay a yearly fee to join, but you get really great discounts on the products.

Here is how it works:

1. Register for free to browse the products, compare the savings to other retailers, and get 15% off your first purchase.
2. Once you purchase your first order, you begin a 30 day trial membership. You can cancel this at any time.
3. At the end of 30 days, you can join Thrive Market for $59.95 (comes to just $4.99 per month). With each paid membership, a low-income family will be sponsored with an annual membership fee.

They have free shipping when you spend $49 or more. I will definitely give them kudos on their packing. The glass jars are wrapped very well and all the liquid products are taped shut and put into bags. One of my favorite things about the site is that you can shop based on values. What do I mean by that? They have a page you can go to and search for products based on them being Paleo, Gluten-Free, Raw, Vegan, Grass-Fed, Fragrance Free, Certified Organic, Fair Trade Certified and Non-GMO, just to name a few. This search function makes shopping so much easier!

They have a great selection of food, but they also have wonderful choices in beauty products. I just bought a few new items that I just love. They have some great all-natural certified organic lip balm (Mongo Kiss in Vanilla Honey) and some really great Shea butters. I bought 2 different brands (Nourish Organic & Nubian), and I really like them both.

I really can’t say enough good things about Thrive Market. I have been very happy with the selection, quality, fast shipping and incredible prices. I would definitely recommend them to everyone… you don’t even need to be a caveman or cavewoman. They have stuff for everyone!
