Snacks for Dad

Snacks for Dad

by Health & Wellness Team - June 12, 2014

What dad doesn’t like a snack full of nuts and chocolate? Let’s find a way to combine some of dad’s favorite ingredients to create an energy-dense snack that is portable for all of our ‘on-the-go’ dads!

Combining nuts, seeds, dried fruit, grains, sweets and/or savory extras creates the perfect sweet and salty snack.

Nuts are nutritional dynamos full of vitamins and minerals. Look for unsalted and unsweetened nuts.

Seeds provide an additional boost of nutrients. Some seeds to consider are pumpkin, sunflower, sesame, flax or hemp seeds.

Dried fruit can be tricky. When considering dried fruit, pay close attention to ingredients and nutritional information. Choose dried fruit with little added sugar and preservatives or make your own!

Grains are complex carbs that boost your energy and satisfy your cravings to keep you full longer.

Sweets… Use sparingly and consider dark chocolate varieties.

Savory Extras provide an extra spice that adds more variety to the mix.

With all these ingredients in mind, start mixing and matching to come up with your favorite combo!

There is only 1 rule for trail mix… PORTION CONTOL. Mindless eating will lead to calorie overload. Instead, pre-portion a quarter-cup or less for each serving.
