Work, school, kids, homework, finances, family, friends, or just stress about all your stress – you are stressed. Stress is almost impossible to avoid in this crazy, busy world in which we live.
If that is the case, it is important to determine ways to handle stress that will maintain productivity, effectiveness, and your personal life.
There are endless tips to reducing stress including:
• Time management
• Getting an average of 7-9 hours of sleep per night
• Eating healthy
• Exercising regularly
• Having the ability to say “no” on occasion
Just to name a few.
However, I want to offer a different perspective to shift your mindset about the stress in your life.
Does your perception of stress indicate how it affects your health?
Does your mindset about stress predict how it will affect you?
These are questions being researched in new studies on stress. Health psychologist, Kelly McGonigal, talks about “How to make stress your friend” in this 15-minute Ted Talks presentation and discusses the theory: how you think about stress matters.

Wait a second… So assuming stress is bad, is what makes stress bad. That sounds crazy, but research is beginning to say that is true.
Changing your perception of stress allows your body to change how it reacts to stress.
Meaning, our perceptions influence how our bodies react in situations. Our PERCEPTION and how we CHOOSE to view deadlines, rush hour traffic, finances, family demands, daily busy-ness, determines how our bodies physically and mentally REACT and RESPOND.
If we begin to view daily obstacles and challenges as opportunities to learn and improve performance, it can lead to a happier, healthier, more effective life. We need to change our mindset from ‘stress is debilitating’ to ‘stress is enhancing’.
Am I saying that stress will go away? No. But I do believe this concept has the potential to allow people to view stress in a different way that could result in health benefits.
Reassess, the meaning of stress, more or less, reach success!
